Hahah, awesome facial expression and pose, I love how well this is done too. Also, your title for this one is what I've always wondered myself, and never learned Marvel's reasoning or explanation for it.
They could not salvage the y chromosome which is why she is female, after 22 failed attempts at male clones they tried making a female clone. The reason it worked is because she in not a complete clone, this being due to the fact that she has the DNA of a female scientist as well as Wolverine's. In a way she is both his clone and his daughter.
Was that actually official? I didn't think that was and just something someone came up with rather than giving a real reason. Either way if that is the official reason than I can't complain really because X-23 is one of my favorite Marvel characters, which yeah are mostly female.
Okay thanks for that, although I am a little disappointed as it feels almost half-assed but I'm sure they explain a lot more about it than just that. Regardless, I like her a little more because it's like some TG thing involved which makes me wish I was her in that sense as I love gender transformations from male to female. Although yes I know she's a different person being a clone she probably has his memories though so to her it would likely feel like that, but I could be mistaken.
Hmmm so she is thus a completely different person? Awww I originally thought she basically thought like Wolverine but obviously different in the obvious way, that would of been quite interesting in a comic, but what should I have expected? Oh well, thanks for the information.
If I recall her origin comic correctly, that's what happened. They repeatedly tried to clone Logan, but failed every time due to damage in the Y chromosome, so they attempted it with XX and the embryo was viable.
She has a pretty interesting background, if you ever get into reading her comics. My initial thoughts about her was that she's just 'chick Wolverine', but they've written her to have a different story from him, which is nice.
There are two mini series comics, 6 issues each, for her. The first is called Innocence Lost, the other is Target X. The first details her creation and early life, while the second takes place between her origin and her appearance in the comic series NYX.
A mini series shouldn't be too costly to get a hold of. If nothing else, you may be able to find it in a library. I know a few libraries have offered comics to check out, and can even order some temporarily, so it could be worth checking out.
